Mercury Bar, New York City

Register now.

Join your fellow Tar Heels at Mercury Bar East on Friday, Dec. 18 for “The New York Roots of Tar Heel Basketball,” a pregame pep talk by UNC History professor Matt Andrews ’08 (PhD) before the CBS Sports Classic Tournament.  In his talk, Andrews will discuss the conditions that turned UNC into a “basketball school.”  Much more than a North Carolina story, this informal talk will explore how post-war events in New York City played an important role in the rise of UNC as a national basketball power.

On Saturday,  cheer on the UNC Tar Heels when they take on the UCLA Bruins at 1 p.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  For more information about the CBS Sports class, visit cbssports.com.

Mercury Bar is located at 493 Third Ave. in Manhattan.  A cash bar will be available at the event. There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is preferred.
